Achievements:

  • Organised communication and resource mobilisation training programmes and improved capacities & skills of the 65 grass-root level ‘non-government organisations’ in Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh states. These organisations are working for the protection of human rights, reducing illiteracy, eradicating poverty, promoting gender equality, empowering indigenous communities and involved in conservation of common property resources and regeneration of forest and environment.  
  • Livelihood development supports have helped to 891 self-help groups of women from rural and hill areas. Various training programmes on income generation activities have helped women members to challenge poverty with collective action. Activities such as—non-timber forest produces, handicrafts, honey collection, bricks production, cow rearing, goat rearing, flower sales, fruit sales, firewood sales, medicinal & herbal products, minor forest produces, poultry, fishing, sculpture, embroidery, naturopathy, vegetable venturing, small village shops, marketing support and other works are helped to improve the economic condition of rural and adivasi women. This activity also played major role in gender equality such as the  skills of women are developed, created assets on women’s name, organised gender sensitization workshops to men, increased women’s mobility and their education –all these have reduced dowry and female infanticide.
  • Improved literacy rate among the rural and adivasi people and increased children’s school-going attendance rate. Through continues effort literacy awareness programmes reached to over 1200 villages which has helped to reduce school drop-outs at maximum level in the villages where we work. This activity also helped our members to establish rights of the children with special importance to girl child rights. 
  • Promoted and facilitated ‘community-based federations’ in which about 3,78,000 people are members and all are involved for their village development activities through self-help concept. These federations are spreaded over 40 locations in South India.  
  • Motivated people’s campaign to achieve land rights which helped our members to attain about 750 acres of land for their economic empowerment similarly political awareness campaign increased rural and adivasi people’s participation in Panchayat Raj systems and over 350 people from adivasi section are taking active role in local self-government.
  • Environment awareness programmes increased adivasi people’s active participation in protection and promotion of forest resources through joint-forest management activity. The forest regeneration activities are very strong in the areas of Chengalpet region, Jawadhu Hills, Denkanikottai Hills, Vaalparai, Asanoor, Kambam, Palani and Nilgiri areas.
  • Created good linkages with other development organisations and forums of the Indigenous Peoples those are based in Asia, Africa, South America and Australia.
  • Coordinated and organised exposure trips for the groups that are involved in innovative income generation activities, which have improved their marketing, support, value addition to the rural products, increased mutual sharing and learning.
  • Organised summer camps through our members for the rural and urban children to improve their educational talents, skills and ability power to coop-up with modern development. Special field visits are organised for these children to take part in environment protection and conservation of common property resources and till now over 300 children are involved and benefited through these kinds of activity.
